Notes From Kristen

I Can’t Believe It’s Been a Year

Hello to all of you!

Whether you are new around here, or you have been here with me from the beginning, thank you for reading my blog.

Change is in the air and there are a few announcements I’d like to make.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I started this blog.  I wrote my first post in November 2017.  The following month, in December 2017, I decided almost on a whim to make my blog public so that anyone could read it. I wanted to break out of the isolation I was feeling and putting my story out there where anyone could read it helped me feel connected to the world again and to release the hold over my life that my ex-boyfriend had.

In January 2018, as I started to actively share what I had written and people began to respond positively, I decided to get a domain name for my blog and build a “real” website.  I’ve tried my hardest to keep up and keep it running ever since.

Creating this blog changed my life. Writing and connecting with all of you has been integral in my healing process, and I have reached a new phase and that is going to be reflected in new ways.

Originally, I named this website “In the Shadows of the Fairy Tale,” because that’s exactly how I felt. It seemed as if I was hovering in the shadows of a shattered dream.

A year later, however, things have changed.  I no longer feel like I’m in the shadows.  I have come out the other side and can look back at where I was.  It’s a different phase of recovery, but I’m not in the darkness anymore.

Therefore, I’ve decided to change the name of the website to just “Fairy Tale Shadows.”

The name change is subtle, but it’s an important one. The loss of the word “in” highlights the fact that the dark period of time lost during recovery from a relationship with a narcissist is impermanent.  Though it is devastating and seems endless, it has both an implied “in” and an implied “out.” It is a finite period in time– and the shadows do fade.

I have just as strong of a desire as I ever did to help others get out of their relationships with narcissists and to recover– if not more so– and I will continue to write articles about how I have managed to get where I am.  I try to dig deep when I write and I promise that my articles will always come from my heart.

I’m also discovering that I have more creative ideas for how to promote awareness about narcissistic abuse.  I will be starting to experiment with new ways on the website to do that, such as:

  • video clips that illustrate rather than discuss difficult-to-understand concepts
  • ways for others to tell their own stories anonymously
  • very short motivational videos you can listen to in difficult moments
  • new short activities for each stage of breaking up with a narcissist that you can try
  • videos recorded in other languages

If there are any topics you would like for me to write about or cover in any way, I would love to hear from you!

I would also like to announce that I am a new author at HealthyPlace on Verbal Abuse in Relationships.  I will be sure to share here the articles I publish there on a biweekly basis. I would also encourage you to check out their other authors on the topic, as well as their blog on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and their general mental health resources.

One more thing:  please stay tuned as soon I will be announcing how to get the t-shirt that everyone keeps asking me about:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading.

Stay Strong!
